Nurture
The Nurture Group (Sunshine Class) has been running since September 2006. Its aim is to provide a preventative early intervention for children who, for whatever reason, are not thriving within the classroom. The Nurture Group provision is ever evolving to cater for the specific needs of individual children. The children’s needs and group dynamics are taken into consideration and the provision is altered as necessary.
The learning environment of the Nurture Room is designed to have the atmosphere of part home and part school. The home area is a kitchen with a large breakfast table to accommodate up to 10 children and two adults.

Within this homely environment there is an approach of consistency and secure boundaries, this ensures the children can begin to gain confidence, build self-esteem, learn to express their feelings appropriately, share, take turns and care for one another. Having a smaller group provides more opportunity for speaking and listening, being responsive, remembering and engaging in reciprocal shared activities e.g. play, meals, reading, talking about events and feelings.
