Learning Support
Some children experience learning difficulties at school. The Governors, Headteacher and Teaching Staff are committed to the early identification of children’s needs in line with the national Code of Practice. The school follows a staged approach to meeting children’s needs with work at an appropriate level. The school has a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator who works with class teachers to produce special programmes of work if required.
The school Senco is Becky Michell. She can be contacted by phoning the school on Tel:01767 681185 or email: b.michell@robertpeel.beds.sch.uk
The school is well equipped with appropriate resources to offer children with difficulties the means to progress. There is close liaison with specialist help outside the school. A close partnership with parents is also fostered by the school, in order that the child is well supported. Parents are included in discussions about their child’s progress through consultation evenings and individual appointments.
Records are kept of a child’s progress throughout his/her time at Robert Peel and these records follow the child through to Middle School. There is close contact with the Middle Schools during the transfer period and every effort is made to ensure that all children, whatever their need, achieve their full potential at our school. The school governor with a particular interest in Special Needs is Mr S Grayson.
In addition to work in class we also run SPIRALS speech and language groups in Year 1 and Reception, Nurture Group input and SMILE Mentoring.
